DELIVERING A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO COUNSELLING

ABOUT ALLIE

My professional background

I am a BACP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist, CBT-E Practitioner and author and have spent the whole of my career working with clients and meeting their different health and well-being needs. I integrate and interweave different evidence based therapeutic approaches depending on the presenting needs of my clients. I have done this in a wide variety of settings including the NHS (Primary Care Mental Health and IAPT), the Corporate Sector, the Third Sector and in Private Practice.

I have also worked in the field of fitness and so appreciate the joy a healthy body can provide. I have a holistic view of life; mind and body function together, not in isolation.

My personal experiences and area of expertise

My area of special interest and expertise is eating disorders. I am a Beat Ambassador, sharing their vision that eating disorders can and will be beaten. I have had personal experience of overcoming an eating disorder and now aim to inspire other sufferers and give insight into the complexities of this tenacious and notoriously difficult to treat illness. I have made many media appearances, given presentations, published a book, and written several newspaper and magazine articles about this subject. My aim has been to challenge the stereotypes and stigma that people with eating disorders and other mental health conditions face, campaign for better services and treatment, and provide information, support and encouragement to those seeking treatment and recovery. I love to share my experience, strength, optimism and professional knowledge in the unwavering hope that all my clients will walk free from the chains of addiction, or whatever it is that is holding them back from living a happy, fulfilling life.

My thoughts  for you

There are no short-cuts to any place worth going to. There is no one giant step that does it, just lots of little steps, and I’m guessing one of your first steps finds you here. I competed for Great Britain over a 10 year period and as a runner I want to support you in running the race of your life, running it well and finishing strong. I aim to equip and empower you to fulfil your purpose and destiny and give you the knowledge to manoeuvre and navigate the mental obstacles that inhibit your ability to soar.

For me the most important aspect of my work is the relationship I have with my clients. This relationship is about building up trust and this is achieved, I believe, through empathy and understanding. Being in recovery myself, I experience a lot of identification with my clients and can empathise from deep within my soul. Professionally, I am very proud of my academic achievements, but I can honestly say my greatest learning has been from my clients. I feel humbled by their openness and honesty and feel privileged to be part of their recovery journey. I would love to be a contributory part of your journey to freedom too... What are you waiting for?
